The Body Mechanics of Kung Fu Animal Power
Animal Power is a great way to learn how move with coordination, balance and power. Unless you plan on becoming an elite athlete you will probably never receive coaching in your body mechanics. Body mechanics means learning how each part of your body works best. Learning to create a synergy where the sum of all the parts of the body is incredibly better. This includes improving posture, precise alignment of the joints, sequencing the movement of different parts of the body, and other traits, that enhance performance. A person with good body mechanics will be stronger, better balanced, and more coordinated than a person of similar build who has poor body mechanics. Systematically teaching superb body mechanics is one of the coolest things about Kung Fu Animal Power.
Let’s look at the Body Mechanic Each Animal Teaches:
We’ll start with the feet and work our way up the body.
- Rooster – Foot
- Crane – Ankle
- Lion – Knee
- Horse – Hips
- Bear – Spine
- Elephant – Shoulder
- Falcon – Elbow
- Ox – Wrist
- Eagle – Finger and Grip Strength
- Dog – Lift Your Head
- Rabbit – Close Mouth
- Swallow – Chest
The remaining Six Animals Teach important qualities of movement and how to acquire them:
- Tortoise – Gather Qi to the Center
- Dragon – Coiling
- Tiger – Explosive Power
- Jaguar – Speed
- Snake – Flexibility
- Monkey – Quick Turns
Since your child will study each animal for four to six weeks they can make a real improvement because we practice these lessons every class.
