The Earth Dragon Staff, a classical combat-oriented staff form, is a captivating discipline taught by the esteemed Grandmaster Wong Jackman. My admiration for this remarkable staff form runs deep, as it masterfully employs a lengthy staff, showcasing movements tailored to its extended reach. With its nimble essence characterized by leaps, low stances, and impeccable footwork, the Earth Dragon Staff exemplifies the quintessential movement and body techniques found within the Northern Shaolin style, harmoniously integrating into its overarching system.
Comprising a conservative estimate of 88 movements, the Earth Dragon Staff routine offers an engaging and comprehensive experience suitable for practitioners of all levels. Personally, I relish the challenge of performing ten repetitions of this demanding form in a single session, especially when wielding one of my weightier staves—a rigorous workout that never fails to invigorate me.
Excitingly, the Earth Dragon Staff now stands as one of the inaugural courses within our newly launched Northern Shaolin path in our Online Academy. Another eagerly anticipated offering on the horizon is the foundational Northern Shaolin empty hand form, known as “Lian Bu” or Linking Steps. Stay tuned to our newsletter for further updates and details on these enriching opportunities!
