Northern Shaolin Sashes

This is the new level system for Northern Shaolin sashes. I will begin awarding Sashes as people merit them. The fee for your Sash is $20. In the past, I prepared beautiful certificates with official seals. This is time consuming and needs to be done carefully to look good. We may do these again, there will need to be a reasonable fee this time.

A big change from our previous Level System version is removing Tan Teui. We love Tan Tuei and encourage people to learn and practice it. However, I am now considering Tan Teui to be a form which I will teach separately and award a certificate and perhaps a patch for learning. I have removed Tan Teui because I prefer for students to learn Lian Bu, and the core forms of Northern Shaolin sooner. Northern Shaolin #6 is exciting to practice and learn. In comparison, Tan Tuei is longer and can be difficult to remember, both because of its length, and its repetitive nature.

In the past, we held exams and awarded sashes every three or four months. This was fun and motivating, but also exhausting for us to organize these events. In the future, our plan is to gather once a year at a super cool event and award sashes then. However, we may also award sashes in class as people show merit. Competing in tournaments is a good place to demonstrate merit.
