Earth Dragon Staff from Northern Shaolin is a magnificent classical combat oriented staff form taught by Grandmaster Wong Jackman. I have always loved this staff form. I love that it uses a long staff and actually has movements suited to a long length pole. It is also a nimble form with many leaps, low stances, and fantastic footwork. This form typifies the style of movement and body method in the Northern Shaolin style. It really fits into the system.
Since I count it conservatively to contain 88 movements, it is long enough for almost everyone. Earth Dragon Staff is such an intense workout. I love going out and trying to do 10 repetitions with one of my heavier staves in a single session. That is a great workout!
Earth Dragon Staff is one of the first courses we are creating for the new Northern Shaolin channel in our Online Academy. One of the other first courses we will be releasing is the beginning level Northern Shaolin empty hand form known as “Lian Bu” or Linking Steps.
