Tui Na Massage Healing Secrets: Lineaments and Poultices Part 1 of 2

Lineaments and Poultices are part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tui Na Massage, and Classical Chinese Martial Arts. Tui Na Massage is the manual or massage therapy method of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Lineaments are liquids, usually a water or alcohol base, steeped with herbs and aged. These are applied topically either by oneself as a self-treatment or by a Tui Na Massage or manual or massage therapy practitioner during a treatment. Poultices are a mixture of herbs usually applied as a paste and covered with a bandage. Both lineaments and poultices are most often used as part of a trauma treatment.

Because martial artists specialize in causing trauma and are relatively highly likely to experience traumas, they became expert at treating them. In the past, martial artists were frequently also doctors and doctors were often martial artists. Exercise, including martial arts, is along with acupuncture, herbs, manual therapy like Tui Na Massage, and diet one of the five branches of Traditional Chinese medicine. Martial arts is a supreme form of exercise and includes both qigong and self-defense. In this sense classical Chinese martial arts like Northern Shaolin, Tai Chi Chuan, Xing Yi Quan, Ba Gua Zhang, and Lan Shou Quan are all part of the fifth branch of Chinese medicine, exercise. Some people, the old fashioned ones, considered having equally awesome skills in medicine and martial arts to be the definition of “Sifu” or Master Instructor.

In part 2 of 2, we will take a look at the favorite lineaments and poultices that Kung Fu people use and how to use these time tested herbal formulas!
