Michelle Yeoh has always been an inspiration to me for her great action scenes and stunts. Without a doubt Michelle Yeoh is stunningly beautiful, Miss Malaysia, but her combination of great acting and absolutely top notch stunt work elevate her to status of living legend. Michelle Yeoh is personally my favorite female action star. I’m not even sure there is anyone else even close except Zhang Zhiyi maybe. It is wonderful to see her acknowledged with a Golden Globe Award. The Golden Globe is the Academy Award for English and foreign films in Hollywood. This is a huge award for Yeoh, that she richly deserves. She has also recently been named Time magazines Icon of the Year2022.
I think Michelle deserves these roles and is an inspiration for women, and Asian women in particular, to be both powerful and beautiful. Off the top of my head Michelle Yeoh has been in countless Kung Fu movies and fully held her own with Jackie Chan, a Bond Movie, in Star Trek, in Star Wars, in a Marvel Super Hero movie, Shang Chi, hopefully she’ll be in a Lord Of Rings prequel. Are there any male stars that can touch that? Maybe Samuel L. Jackson? Sir Ian McKellen? But I think Michelle Yeoh can kick their behinds in real life.
Michelle Yeoh did not achieve her success easily. Yeoh worked hard from the young age of 4 learning ballet. Then she relentlessly pursued her dreams in film. 40 years later, at age 60 she finally got great recognition.
Along the way there must have been many moments for her to reflect on herself and her goals. Could she do it? What did she need to learn next? Cultivate next? Yeoh has consistently shown the way of real Kung Fu. Kung Fu means skill acquired through hard work over a long period of time. A short translation of Kung Fu can be “Hard Work”. “Skilled Person” would be another way to translate Kung Fu. For someone who was never actually trained in martial arts but only in dance and on set stunt work, Yeoh has amazing Kung Fu. Her skill as an actress and action star is her Kung Fu cultivated over a lifetime of hard work.
If you haven’t yet seen “Everything, Everywhere, All at Once” her newest film for which she won the Golden Globe Award I can say Rachel and I loved it. This film won many other awards and is one of the best and most imaginative films I have seen in years. Packed with reality warping, googly eyes, incredible makeup, cinematography, and incredibly imaginative and comedic fight scenes including some legendary Fanny Pack Fu you can’t go wrong. This film really shows what an absolutely incredible actress Yeoh has become. And she still has the moves too!
Michelle Yeoh first wowed me and many others in Super Cop. I think this is the first time I saw her that made me say “Wow, she’s great!” This fight against police in Super Cop shows her kicking skills. See video to the right.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon became a massive hit and reawakened interest in Kung Fu movies and Kung Fu for many. This is a great fight scene, iconic, between Yeoh and Zhang Zhiyi.
Michelle Yeoh doing the kind of stunts only Tom Cruise does on a motorcycle in Super Cop 3. She was incredible in this video!
Michelle Yeoh fights a giant! Again shows her kicking skills! Funny thing for a kung fu movie star all her training is actually in ballet since the age of 4! She only learned movie fu on set from her stunt trainers and directors! Like Jackie Chan…

Two of my personal favorite Michelle Yeoh kung Fu movies are “Reign of Assassins” and “Sword of Destiny”. What are your favorite Michelle Yeoh movies or shows?
