In our last post about our Victory Garden we had a delivery of well composted manure while everyone was busy buying toilet paper.

During Easter Week I went into farmer mode. Well, I worked like a farmer, but I really need the overalls, boots, and hat to complete the look. I guess I was Gung Fu gardener outside wearing my training pants while gardening.

The sprouts are sprouting up. First and most impressive as always were the Sugar Snap Peas and the Taichung #11 Snow Peas, we are waiting on the Taichung #13 to germinate. Also up are Chinese Mustard Greens, Gai Lan or Chinese Broccoli, and Tatsoi, and Komatsuna. Many starters have been planted and they are looking good. These seeds came from Kitazawa Nursery

Special Thank you to Harold for bringing me a massive pile of great garden pots that effectively doubled my planting space. These are all filled with superb mixes of soil and amendments and almost all are planted with either seeds or starters. Our chicks are also growing rapidly!!!

I encourage you to start your own Victory Garden whether more modest or grander it doesn’t matter. Growing plants for food in your own garden or raising a couple of chickens for eggs is wonderful fun and you simply cannot better food with a little practice. Victory Gardens were started in World War 2 to both supply more food to peoples’ tables and to boost morale. Our Victory Garden has certainly boosted our morale and I hope it boosts yours too!
